The Testament dative and Inventory of the goods and 
          gear which were  pertaining and belonging to umqule 
          Thomas Philp Shipmaster in Leith at the time of his 
          decease who deceased abroad upon the twenty ninth 
          day of May one thousand seven hundred and seventy 
          seven years Faithfully made and given up by John Philp 
          Taylor in Leith Brother German of the defunct and only 
          Executor dative qua nearest in kin discerned to him 
          and that by decreet of the Commissaries of Edinburgh 
          as the same Date the twelfth day of August one 
          thousand seven hundred and seventy eight years In

First the said Umqle Thomas Philp pertaining and 
          belonging to him at the time of his decease foresaid 
          the goods and gear aftermentioned of the several 
          values and prices following Vizt a Black Coat vest and 
          breeches valued at one pound a Brown Coat vest and 
          Stocking breeches one pound two Jackets old two 
          Shillings and Sixpence Two old Big Coats five Shillings 
          and old Sea Coat one Shilling Four pair old Breeches 
          two Shillings Two pair of drawers one Shilling a Razor 
          and Nutmeg Grater Six pence a half (a?ke?) Case and 
          big bottle Six Shillings Six volumes history books three 
          Shillings a Bed two pair of blankets and a (Ro??y) ten 
          Shillings Ten pair of very old Stockings two Shillings 
          and Sixpence Seven Check Shirts ten Shillings Five 
          white Shirts ten Shillings one pair of Silver Sleeve 
          buttons six pence a pair of Silver Shoe and knee 
          buckles ten Shillings a pair of Shoes one Shilling an old 
          Silver watch one pound Six Shillings all Sterling money 
          Extending the values of the Several articles before 
          mentioned In haile to the Sum of Six pound twelve

          Singed Estimation, thereof dated the eleventh day of 
          September one thousand Seven hundred and Seventy 
          eight years, and the watch above mentioned was 
          valued as aforesaid by John Shirving watchmaker in 
          Edingurgh conform to his Signed Estimation, thereof 
          dated the Sixteenth day of said month of September 
          one thousand Seven hundred and Seventy eight years.

Leith, Feb.21. Wind S.E. Arrived the Venus of Leith, Philip, from St. Lucar
        with wine and fruit; and the nancie, Crawford, from Hull with grain.

Seville oranges, in the greatest perfection for marmalade, also China
        oranges and lemons, imported in the Venus, Thomas Philp master, from
        St. Lucar, to be sold in chests or half chests, by Charles Cowan merchant
        in Leith.
        
The vessel has had a quick passage, and the fruits are in excellent order,
        and will be sold at a very moderate price.

        A Thomas Philp, sailor, appears to have married a Helen Burnet on 17
        Mar 1765 (info from Ancestry , from Edin. Register of Marriage 1751-
        1800, in errata.) UNLIKELY - he seems to have been in Tron parish.
