Cunningham, Patrick, s. to John C., brewer, p. to James Burn, wright (B.) 29 Apr 1730

James Burn or Burns is in the 1752 directory living at Burn's Land, in Forrester's Wynd which ran between the Lawnmarket and the Cowgate. The whereabouts of Patrick Cunningham and his family are not given - he may have lived in the same household as Burns, or they may have been outside the city boundaries in the Canongate, as was Benjamin Coutts, the brother of Agnes Coutts.

Notes:
Cunningham, Patrick, Wright Currie's Close, castle hill. (From Edinburgh Directory 1774-5)

From 1775-6 directory we have Cunningham, Peter, Wright Currie's Close, castle hill.
Also 76-77, 77-8

I think that these are indeed the same person.
He is not listed in the 1752 directoty.

Next generation - Cunningham, W and P, Goldsmiths, castle hill - 1778- 9 directory: this would be his sons.
(William C, Goldsmith, is witness to birth of a child (James Philp) of Marion C in 1779)
Note that in 1780-1 only William C. is listed as Goldsmith on castle hill.

But in 1782, listing is:
Cunningham, Peter, goldsmith, Nairn's close, castlehill
1783 same
Notes:
I had earlier considered it likely that Patrick Cunningham was son of John Cunningham and Marion Hill, b. 11 Dec 1720, St Cuthbert's.

However it seems most likely he was son of John Cunninghame and Jean Johnstoun of Corstorphine. John C. is described in the birth record as a brewer.
