-
Parents from marriage record (to Mary Phillips) are William Blain and
Mary Blain MS Thomson. Wm Blain senior was a gardener.
Mary deceased by the 1860 marriage. Death record however shows Mary
Maxwell, not Thomson, as mother. Maxwell is most likely - it is attested in
the name of daughter Mary Maxwell Blain.
In 1860 William Blain was probably aged 21 - figures seems to have
been a 3 amended to 1 and is hard to read. In the 1871 census he is
aged 32.
Birth is likely to have been that recorded at Stranraer and Inch - Baptism
11 JAN 1838 - family likely to have moved to Greenock after the birth.
They are not in the Wigtownshire 1851 census, to moved between 1841
and 1851. In 1841 census William is shown as youngest in family living in
Sun Street, Stranraer.
