Putting all the foregoing the other way round and in a table:
Robert Philp of Crail – said to be a burgess there - married Margret Allen in 1676, the marriage recorded or proclaimed in both St Andrews and in Crail. They had several children born at Byrhills or Boarhills near St Andrews in 1670s-90s, including two surviving sons, David and Robert:
Warning - Robert Philp b 1696 - there is no absolutely confirming evidence that he is the one who married Helin and Helen, becoming father of Robert the wright. Hence while Robert the grocer in Leith and James the ship carpenter in Leith are shown here as second cousins, they might not be. Such are the dilemmas of family history research.
